Sara Leone
Memorial Scholarship Program
Odyssey Player Sara Leone died in a car crash in July of 2005. Since then, her teammates and Maine’s youth soccer community have mourned Sara’s death and celebrated her life in many ways. Team players wear Sara’s uniform number 14 embroidered on their jerseys and also hosted Soccerpalooza, an indoor tournament that included many of Sara’s soccer friends.
Over the past year, Sara’s family, friends and teammates have contributed generously to create The Sara Leone Achievement Award and The Sara Leone Memorial Scholarship. Players in Sara’s age group will graduate from high school and leave Odyssey in the spring of 2008, so it is fitting that the Club’s official commemoration launches in the fall of 2007, when it will name the first recipients. The Sara Leone Achievement Award will be awarded this fall to a 2007 U15 girl who shares Sara’s values and passion for life. The Sara Leone Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a 2008 U13 girl in financial need to encourage her participation in premier soccer.
To learn more about Sara and her love of the game of soccer, see The Sara Leone Memorial Scholarship brochure. You can be part of this commemoration by making a donation. Instructions can also be found in the brochure.
